This exhibition primarily focuses on human relationships, including those between couples, families, and friends. Our work aims to explore how these relationships play a crucial role in our lives and how we are affected each moment by the people around us. We find it fascinating to consider the many facets of a person’s identity and the complexity of the human mind. This exhibition delves into themes of love, the value we hold in the eyes of others, and the journey to discover our true selves.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Amy Chiu is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Painting, Sculpture, and Ceramics at Brigham Young University. Throughout her studies in the BA program, she has developed a passion for figure painting and conceptual art, honing her skills in various techniques, including oil painting and mixed media. Amy has exhibited her work annually in the student shows hosted by the Department of Art, where one of her paintings received the Award of the Year. This exhibition marks her first semi-solo show.

Amberlee Cox Hales is from Mesa, Arizona. She received her associate’s degree in fine arts at Eastern Arizona Collage, and is currently attending Brigham Young University to receive her bachelor’s in art administration with a minor in psychology. Cox’s work focuses on the relationships she has with the people in her life and the beauty in her surroundings and shares these wonders through her paintings and installations. She uses materials including acrylic, found objects, and nature’s objects to layer the emotions she has found in her understanding of what it means to share trust in good, safe relationships. In her installations, Cox deepens her connections with nature by hunting and gathering her own materials from local fauna. It is one of her deepest desires to find peace and help others experience that as well. By showing the beauty that nature can provide, she arranges her materials in inside locations in an effort to help others connect with nature. Whether it is from an innate instinct to connect with her ancestors’ needs to gather, or a desire for others to see nature’s beauty, she enjoys the process of discovering and showing others that there is some peace in the world.
