Sunny Belliston Taylor was born and raised in Utah, spending most of her life in St. George. She attended Brigham Young University where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree In 2005. She then received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2007 from The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. For the past several years, Taylor has been exhibiting her work extensively in both group and solo exhibitions throughout the country and internationally. She currently teaches as an assistant professor in the Studio Arts program at BYU.

In these works, I am re-engaging painting’s geometric tradition, positioning myself within a network of influences who explored the “objecthood” of painting, as well as the surface’s potential for formal expression. My paintings acknowledge their structure, with compositional elements informed by the boundaries of the panel’s dimensions. The visual incidences created seek to mimic the construction and deconstruction process of the modern landscape, and to conjure thoughts on cycles of progress and decline.
