This project reflects Sára’s interest in visiting empty landscapes in Utah, in contrast with the heavy-populated Czech Republic where she comes from. She researched land artists such as Nancy Holt and Robert Smithson, and visited places including the deserts of Southern Utah, Antelope Island, the Utah Salt Flats, and works of art including Spiral Jetty and Sun Tunnels. Her work features video art and photography and deals with the effect that openness and “aloness” have on human psychology.
Sára is a Studio Art major (BFA) at BYU. She has received several juror awards in the last couple of years, and interned with artist David Thorpe in Berlin, Germany. This work was possible with the help of the Film & Digital Media Grant.
