ON DISPLAY
December 17, 2020 – April 27, 2021

LOCATION

The religious phrase “signs and wonders” refers to the supernatural experiences and events that follow believers. Signs & Wonder plays with this concept, inviting reflection and wonder about how literal signs come to inhabit a supernatural power of their own through universal acceptance and adherence. Using commonly understood signs such as pavement markings, musical notes, and handwritten letters the works in this exhibition invite viewers to consider the meaning of these signs as they relate to the physical and spiritual journey of human existence.

Visiting artist Todd Stilson was born in Bountiful, Utah and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Brigham Young University in the mid 1980’s. Exposure to the art and culture of Tokyo, Florence, Paris, and London inform his aesthetic preference that fuses the classical realism of the European Renaissance and the macabre sensibility of the Middle Ages with a sleek, contemporary modernism. The symbolic spiritual and visionary nature of these aesthetic styles is likewise employed to create a dynamic, sublime intellectual experience. Over the past thirty years of his artistic career, galleries in Salt Lake City, Houston, and Palm Desert have exhibited and sold Todd’s work. As a result, his paintings reside in major corporate and private collections throughout the United States.
