ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Katherine Latey is an undergraduate majoring in European Studies with a minor in French. With a deep love of history and cultures, her artwork focuses on the portrayal of women in Western history. This extends beyond literal woman such as Joan of Arc and Charlotte Corday, to literary women such as Orphelia, and even to the feminine personification of movements and themes such as the Enlightenment and death. Pulling strong stylistic choices from 19th century Romantic and Realism movements the artwork invites the viewer to consider how women have been portrayed across time and what those portals mean for the 21st century viewer.
